SYNT RESIDENCY 2024
SYNT RESIDENCY 2024
SYNT is pleased to welcome this year’s recipient of the SYNT Artist Residency, James Evans.
James Evans is a New York based artist, working primarily in the mediums of painting and writing. He grew up in Colorado and studied writing at the University of Colorado at Boulder before relocating to New York.
The influence of the Rocky Mountains had an indelible effect on Evans’s practice. While many of his paintings find inspiration in landscapes, they quickly deviate. In Evans’s work, forms and ideas slip in and out of focus; thoughts and feelings extend beyond one canvas, form, or material surface. His work utilizes a wide range of materials and approaches to straddle the gap between form and abstraction. Within this fractured framework, it's possible to locate moments of clarity and autonomy in their most salient state; right as they begin to drift away.
Since moving to New York in 2013, James has shown in solo and group shows within the US and internationally, working periodically in Berlin, Mexico City, and New York.
SYNT Residency is located in Brooklyn, New York.
